My first movie review…so exciting.

This movie is about a girl (seo-yeon)who moves into her old house, and then realizes that she can talk to another girl (young-sook),who lived in the same house 20 years ago, but what she doesn’t know is she (young-sook) is a murderer.

First of all. This was an amazing movie, I don’t watch a lot of them because they tend to have many faults, or rather I tend to find faults in them. But this one was near perfect, the whole time I was watching it, I didn’t have one thing to criticize, the acting was top notch, the cinematography was very intense and purposeful, it went hand in hand with the dark vibe the movie had.

The storyline was very original, at least for me. It is the kind of storyline which should have many plot-holes, but they managed to make everything flow seamlessly.

You know when your watching a scary movie, and you know when there’s about to be a jump scare, but you still flinch? That was this movie. We expected for young-sook to kill seo-yeon’s father, and seong-ho, but we still feel sad about it. It manages to stay intriguing but yet predictable.

One thing I did not understand was the revelation that it was actually seo-yeon who turned on the gas that killed her father. Yes it was surprising at the moment, but it had no impact on the storyline, and seo-yeon never addressed it, I feel like a twist that should have had more effect and impact.

The ending

I wish I could say.

The viewers were made to believe that seo-yeon’s mom did not die, and that they got a happy ending, but in the credits we see older young-sook warn younger young-sook that she’s going to die, we see seo-yeon’s mother disappear, which means she actually did die, and then we see seo-yeon tied up, it was a lot of shocking information. The fact that there was no direct explanation, makes you think there will be a second movie, but in all honesty, I doubt there will be. I hope the trend of ending movies that have no intending sequels with a cliff hanger ends soon, because I’m surely going to think about it occasionally. Nevertheless, overall it was a well produced movie, Park Shin-hye and Jeon Jong-seo gave stellar performances.

Rating : 9/10

Thanks for getting to the end. I hope you enjoyed this review, see you next time!
