Sorry this review is all over the place, I’m still getting used to writing them, and taking a long break didn’t help

This one has been a really long time coming. I watched this as the episodes were being released which is something I personally wouldn’t recommend cause the waiting game is just not it. This will be a short one because my memory is a little fuzzy on the details…

Although the ratings weren’t as high as expected, The king: eternal monarch was overall a good series, lee min ho, now out of military service, and looks even more handsome than expected. Kim Go-eun, unbelievably stunning. The storyline was really unique, and sometimes I was really confused, but I get that was the point. The supporting cast were amazing, and I may be biased towards Woo Do-hwan because he completely killed his two roles, I look forward to more projects with him, after he gets back from military service.

I only had a few issues with this drama, for one; the product placement was quite excessive, I mean anyone who frequently watches k-dramas knows that product placements are a usual staple, but I believe this one went overboard. Also, the storyline got a bit too confusing towards the end, maybe it’s just me being slow, but I couldn’t for the life of me wrap my head around the whole him coming back to save himself debacle.

This drama had a nice balance of comedy, action and romance, although I would’ve loved more scenes of Lee gon and Tae-eul just hanging out, or a montage… something. I feel like they jumped into the relationship too quickly.

Quick question. Are you team yeong or team Eun seob? Personally, I cannot choose, Yeong in his own way could be really funny, and there’s just something about him always having a straight face in whatever he did that made me find him really amusing. Eun-seob’s naivety and overall attitude really brightened up the show, even just thinking about the scene where he ran away when he and Lee gon were approached by thugs, makes me smile. Them as a duo would be unstoppable.

It wouldn’t be fair to not give an honorable mention to Noh Ok-nam, because Lee gon didn’t have a lot of people in his corner, she played the role perfectly.

Overall, I would give the show an 8/10. It’s great for a binge watch and it keeps you really interested, amazing male and female lead. Amazing supporting characters.

Coming soon : Kdrama review on its okay to not be okay
